Association between productivity and journal impact across disciplines and career age

The association between productivity and impact of scientific production is a long-standing debate in science that remains controversial poorly understood. Here we present large-scale analysis the yearly publication numbers average journal-impact metrics for Brazilian elite. We find this to be discipline-specific, career-age dependent, similar among researchers with outlier non-outlier performance. Outlier either outperform or journal prestige, but they rarely do so both categories. Non-outliers also follow trend display negative correlations prestige discipline-dependent intensity. Our research indicates academics are averse simultaneous changes their journal-prestige levels over consecutive career years. patterns concerning having common raise age most disciplines higher chance outperforming during early stages.
